1 . What is the difference between EquitiesTracker and other free data providers?

EquitiesTracker is a research equities data portal. It adds value by collecting, cleaning, normalizing, archiving and presenting equities data with powerful GUI tools e.g. the use of various filters on historical time series data. EquitiesTracker also provides educational courses on long term value investing. EquitiesTracker competes based on value of information and are committed to continual enhancements to improve its services.


2 . Does EquitiesTracker provide equities data for other countries e.g. SGX Data?

EquitiesTracker currently provides Bursa Malaysia and SGX Singapore market data. EquitiesTracker will be providing equities data for Australia, HK and other ASEAN countries in the near future.


3 . Are courses and tutorials available?

4 . Do you provide real time charting and technical analysis?

No. EquitiesTracker is focused on fundamental equities research data for long term value investors. Charting, on the other hand, is based on price action and ignores the underlying value of the companies.


5 . Is this another technical charting course? What makes you different from the many technical charting courses out there?

We are teaching fundamental analysis of stocks. Technical charting only looks at price movements and ignores analyzing the key underlying asset - the business itself. This is because it is very difficult to teach retail investors how to read company and group financial statements properly. Accounting is the language of business; you have to learn it like a language. To be successful at investing you have to understand the underlying financial values of a business. There are too many technical charting courses out there not telling people their system may not be optimal for markets like Singapore or Malaysia, where for the latter, 2-3% of shareholders control 90-95% of the index. It is slightly better for Singapore but ownership is still in the hands of a select few.


6 . Is this a high frequency trading system?

We are not into high frequency trading which promises gains of more than 100% in a few days, weeks or months. Our system selects a few investment grade companies to monitor and only produces a few investing signals a year.


7 . Why teach the whole world when one can keep this investment system a secret for oneself?

Our system only selects a few investment grade companies to monitor and produces a few investing signals a year - it is really boring - which is why it is nice to hold these courses and meet other people. Also, even after understanding how to read and use financial statements properly, you also need to have the discipline to implement and execute. Many people fail to execute as investing is a lonely profession and many lack discipline. So what better than to turn it into a business, meet like minded people and get discipline reinforced in a proper environment? The market is large enough for all serious disciplined retail investors to benefit from it. We also encourage people to back test the investment system - to see whether it really works - before parting with any real money.


8 . How are the trainers' own personal investments? Are they doing well applying all the techniques taught in the course? Why aren't the trainers enjoying life on a beach in Bali instead of teaching?

We do not promise instant riches of more than 100% in a few days, weeks or months. We are talking about targeting 5%-25% growth in your investment per year over the long term (i.e. 10-40 yrs). In some years, one may even suffer from paper losses. All we want is to do is to beat inflation by a few multiples and meet our long term retirement goals. With such slow growth, of course we cannot retire in Bali ...


9 . Is this one of those get rich quick schemes?

No. In fact we ask all participants to hold on to their jobs and make the effort to learn how to invest in their free time. Merely attending a 2 or 3 day course does not prepare one immediately for investing - it only introduces one to the concepts of investing. Investing is a lifelong pursuit and there is no shortcut to it at all. One must be prepared and disciplined to pick up more investing skills along the way.
